Welcome to GD2K. Today's special is "How to apply for a character on GD2K?"
The answer is fairly complicated, so I'm going to break this up into a few parts.
1: What kind of player are you looking for?
First off, some familiarity with the comic Gold Digger is expected. And since this is a MUSH (Multi-User Shared Hallucination), the ability to compromise is of paramount importance. Things aren't always going to happen the way you expect. Improvisation is the name of the game.
2: What kind of players *aren't* you looking for?
If you are looking for the other players to follow your script, I suggest writing fanfic instead. If you are interested in a lot of bloody combat, this isn't the place for it. Most of the fights in the comic are won with skill, or occasionally blind luck, not raw power. If you are interested in public TinySex, I suggest you try elsewhere. This is GD2K, not GD-Triple-X. "Munchkin" characters will also be rejected out of hand.
3: What's a munchkin?
Well, if you are a werewolf archmage with your own Death Star, and a harem of Amazon ninjas...you are probably a munchkin.
4: Do Feature Character [FC] applications need to know anything special?
The charstaff are very familiar with the entire run of GD. While we are willing to consider alternate interpretations of a character, we do require that the interpretation be consistent. For example, choosing to play Charlotte as a sex-crazed psychopath will probably be rejected out of hand.
5: What about Original Characters [OC's]?
Well, the most important thing to know about an original character is that, like FC's, they are expected to be consistent with GD continuity, so no "Stripe's older sister" applications, please. Also, we are looking for *people*, not bland stereotypes. You can be a warrior if you want, but what _kind_ of warrior? Take the Edge Guard for example. They are all fighters, basically, but Tirga is "amorous", Onoli is chivalrous, Shiela is a tomboy, and Thropan..well, we don't know much about him, and that's the way he likes it. All are different.
Jade-based characters, probably the most common OC's, have a certain risk associated with them. Since Jade is a pure fantasy realm, there is a tempation to simply rewrite an old D&D character to suit the terrain. While there is nothing particularly wrong with that, too often these characters lack personality. Because of this, the standards for a Jade OC are a bit stricter.
6: Can you go over the application for me?
Certainly.
Your full name
We like to know who you are. This information will not be publicized, unless you wish it to be.
Your email
Needed so we can send you a preliminary password (which you can change, once you log on).
Name of the character you wish to apply for
We gotta call you _something_.
NOTE: Feature Characters, skip to the last two questions. Original characters, fill out the questions below as well.
Character's Full Name
Character's Age
Character's Birthplace
Character's Residence
Character's Occupation
Character's Gender
Male/Female/Neutral
(obviously, the last one is for Rakshasa and other such creatures.)
Basically, needed for Finger information. No application will be rejected on the basis of these answers.
Race
Are you human? Some kind of werecreature? Undead? Troll? What exactly are you?
Original Character's Powers & Abilities
What can you do? Realize that power doesn't make the character, personality does.
Original Character's Bio/Background/History
Try to give us a sense of where the character has been, what events have shaped his/her life. It doesn't have to be a novella, but a certain amount of detail would be preferable.
Original Character's Physical Description
For your online description. No applications will be rejected on this basis, either, unless you start using language out of a romance novel.
All players please fill out these two questions.
>> How will you play this character? Please be descriptive!
This is a Shared Hallucination. This answer is primarily used to verify that a character will not be disruptive. It also helps show the character's personality.
Last but not least.. In your character's own words, how does he/she feel about the Diggers sisters?
This question seems to have caused the most trouble, but in a way, it's the most important. The key here is not "the Diggers sisters", but "In your character's own words". The idea is to do an IC [in character] monologue, so we can see how you roleplay.
In closing, try to have fun with your application. Be creative.
