Q. How did you get started in comics?

A.

I submitted samples of my work to many different comic companies. (Including First Comics, Comico, Eternity, Antarctic Press, and even Marvel.) Eternity and Antarctic press responded favorably, and I continued to submit work to them. I submitted a total of 15 different story ideas and samples to both companies before I got work at Eternity inking Robotech and pencilling Tom Corbett:Space Cadet. (You gotta start somewhere.)

Q. How did you come up with the idea of Gold Digger?

A.

When I returned from South West Asia (After Desert Storm) I had a vision of a comic book involving some cute, bouncy ladies. (That's right! GD is originally the product of 6 months in the desert!) I saw an ad for some Snickers candy with these "Indiana Jones" types searching for this huge Snickers bar in an ancient tomb and a flash of inspiration hit me.

Q. Where did you learn to draw?

A.

I've been drawing since I was four. I mostly learned the technical side of anatomy and dynamics from books. I recommend a lot of study into the techniques of the comic art while learning.

Q. Do you prefer to draw in the anime style?

A.

Oh yes. The expressions and emotions I can render using my version of the style is unrestricted. I have no problem with anyone's expressions. (mostly.)

Q. What in the world is Genn anyway?

A.

Genn is a magical, shapeshifting being called a Rakshasa. His natural form is sexless and neutral(It doesn't take any energy to maintain this form.) Genn can change his gender as well as his shape and has some ESP abilities. Genn was rescued from the Daemon Mouse's domain early in the GD series. ShHe (New pronoun) has remained friends with the Diggers sisters ever since.

Q. Who is Gina going to pick? Seance or Ryan?

A.

Seance... I mean Ryan... I mean Seance... I mean Ryan.... I mean Seance... I m- oh skip it.

Q. Now that Brittanny and Stripe are married will they have kids?

A.

Yup.

Q. What is the correct spelling of Cheetah's real name

A.

As most of you well know, Fred himself sometimes can't decide on the absolutely correct spelling of her name. However, for the official FPFC record books, it should be spelled "Britanny". The name was derived from a mythical land found in Origin's highly acclaimed Ultima II called "Britannia." According to Fred, this also explains why Brianna's name is spelled with two "n's".

Q. How do I get in touch with Fred?

A.

The best ways as of right now are:
Emailing directly to fperry@rochester.rr.com
Snail mail in care of his publisher, Antarctic Press

Q. Will we be seeing anymore of Peachbody?

A.

Well, I could tell you exactly where peachbody is, but then I'd be giving away a major surprise.. Suffice to say, it's something I thought about for a while.

Q. Plush Peebo Dolls?

A.

Plush peebos are easy... just get 5 little pompoms (1 large, 4 small) a set of those eye things and some hot glue.

Q. What's the status of the GD vid game project?

A.

In order to concentrate on the animation, I had to put the game on the far back burner... I found if I tried to accomplish both.. They'd both take forever..

Q. What art supplies do you use?

A.

I like to use 2ply bristol for my paper... smooth finish if I'm just inking (But vellum finish if I plan to ink-wash) I like staedtler mars pigment liners to ink with - but I also use sharpies and thick markers to fill in the blacks.. whitw-out. various rulers and circle templates(when I can find them.)

Q. What music do you listen to when creating an ish of GD?

A.

I listen to the radio, various CDs like queen, prince, midnight oil, enya, parlament funkadelic, pm dawn, bustah rymes. depending on the scene I'm rendering. Techno too. But only for some fight scenes.

Q. How do you get past any creative block you might get?

A.

When I have a writer's block, I try to keep working.. writing down phrases, dialogue.. anything. Even stuff that doesn't relate to the block I have. You have to work through writers block.. its the only quick way to deal with it.

Q. Do any of the GD characters represent people in your life?

A.

Actually, their is a little piece in all the characters I make. (I know its weird.. but check it out..) Ace is from when I boot up a flight sim... Ryan is when I start one of my street fighter marathons.. Gina and Brit are sides that only see the light of day in comic form.. and so on..

Q. What are the favorite anime/manga of Gina, Britanny, and Brianna?

A.

Gina doesn't really have a favorite anime, but she enjoys classic scoobydoo. (Gina doesn't have afavorite cause she likes them all) Brit likes Goldfish warning and Cat girl Nuku - Brianna likes Giant Robo, Gundam f-91, anything that gives her creative inspiration.

Q. Do you make a living doing comics full time - or do you have to have a day job?

A.

Well, I'm not rich, but I'm not going hungry either.. most of the time... The print runs getting better. I'm concentrating more and more on getting GD in the press and on retailers minds, but it's hard to do.
